OC Supports a Fossil Free King County

On January 28, King County Council member Dave Upthegrove will introduce an ordinance that would effectively ban all new fossil fuel projects in King County.

Local governments have constitutional authority to protect the health and safety of their residents, and this translates into the authority to regulate fossil fuel infrastructure. Successful legislation in Portland, Tacoma, and Whatcom County has demonstrated that a de facto ban on fossil fuel infrastructure through changes in land use zoning codes is legally feasible.

We are fighting to ensure that King County becomes the next brick in a wall of jurisdictions on the West Coast that prohibits the expansion of dangerous fossil fuels and will be making the following testimony on behalf of the endangered SRKWs:
