ACTION ALERT: Urge Governor Ferguson to honor the reappointment of Dr. Tim Ragen to the Washington Fish & Wildlife Commission
The Washington Fish and Wildlife Commission (WDFW Commission), a nine-member panel appointed by the governor, sets policy for the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) to preserve, protect, and perpetuate fish, wildlife, and ecosystems while providing sustainable recreational and commercial opportunities.
Dr. Tim Ragen, former Executive Director of the U.S. Marine Mammal Commission, is one of the most qualified commissioners Washington has ever had. As the former Executive Director of the U.S. Marine Mammal Commission, Dr. Ragen brings unparalleled expertise and experience in marine conservation, and he has a strong record of making decisions based on science. Reneging on Gov. Inslee’s reappointment of Commissioner Ragen would signal a disregard for science and a lack of commitment to the recovery of our Southern Resident killer whales and threatened and endangered salmon.
ACTION: The reappointment of Tim Ragen is crucial for the future of Washington’s wildlife. Now more than ever, we need commissioners who are committed to science and dedicated to fulfilling their mandate to “protect, preserve, and perpetuate” wildlife, and a Governor willing to stand behind them—before it’s too late for Washington’s vulnerable species. We urge Governor Ferguson to stand by thoughtful appointments and continue the important work of preserving our state’s wildlife for future generations. To continue being effective advocates for the critically endangered Southern Resident killer whale population, we need you to act and get involved by contacting Governor Ferguson’s office with the following message:
##
Dear Governor Ferguson,
I am writing to urge you to stand by the appointments made by Governor Inslee, particularly the reappointment of Dr. Tim Ragen. As the former Executive Director of the U.S. Marine Mammal Commission, Dr. Ragen’s qualifications are second to none. His understanding of marine ecosystems, particularly those crucial to the critically endangered Southern Resident killer whale population, and wild salmon is exactly what we need to address the mounting crises facing Washington’s fish and wildlife.
Dr. Ragen’s science-based approach has earned him widespread respect, and his leadership is integral to the future of Washington’s endangered species. Removing him from the Commission would send a troubling message about the new administration’s commitment to conservation and science.
Our wildlife is in peril, and we need leadership that will put its protection first. Please reappoint Dr. Tim Ragen to the Washington Fish and Wildlife Commission.
Sincerely,
[Your Name]
